Paul Ashby Sep 9, 1893 – July 12, 1993
Paul W. Ashby was a noted artist and long time Kendallville resident. Born 1893 in Gunnison Colorado, he was a 1919 graduate of Indiana State University, a 1931 graduate of Evansville University, and 1947 post graduate of Indiana University. Mr. Ashby moved to Kendallville in 1944, making Kendallville his home for 45 years.
Mr. Ashby was a WWI veteran, lecturer, playwright, musician, author, school teacher, principal, school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and taught at the University of Evansville.
Through his life, Mr. Ashby’s art was shown in more than 175 art shows, winning more than 80 prizes. Mr. Ashby also held nearly 30 showings of only his art. Over his life, Mr. Ashby painted more than 100 water colors, made 8 editions of block prints, and engraved several pictures.
Mr. Ashby donated a portion of his work to the Kendallville Public Library
